Information for individuals who want to do e-learning on their own

If you are worried about waiting any longer for in-depth training on the Mental Capacity Act, which is now fully in force, I can offer you my e-learning program on CD for individual use, for £50 + VAT.

Going up this particular learning curve should be seen as taking personal responsibility for your own continuing professional development, which can only be good for your career or your situation.

The package comes with different layers for additional learning, for different types of staff and professionals, after you’ve first gone through the course. So it’s more like a lively online book than simply an assessment tool.

It contains modules on all of the following:

Introduction to Capacity

  • A gentle start for those who have never needed to consider the significance of capacity before, for their work.

Identifying Incapacity

  • Including sections on the 4 building blocks to capacitated decision making.
  • Who’s going to be making the decision?

Best interests Decision Making

  • Including sections on the IMCA service
  • Spending others’ money
  • The impact of Advance Decisions
  • Disputes with other people
  • Restraint vs Deprivation of Liberty

Other safeguarding alternatives to going to Court

  • An introduction to all the other legal things that can be done to safeguard adults There are two photo-book stories running through the package: one involving an older person with dementia and depression and a warring family; and the other involving a young person with moderate learning disabilities living in the community and facing risk, there. The package is in use in 25 authorities in the country already, so don't buy it, if one of those is yours! I promise I will return your money, if your authority or organisation buys the package before the end of 2007, so you have nothing to lose.

If you would like a copy to run on your own computer in the meantime, please …
